Diverse People Coming Together In Community

At RC Design, we’re not only dedicated to the quality of our work but also the quality of life in our community:

We create beautiful things and tell impactful stories.

We also have an incredible, creative team with great big hearts, who are passionate about our work, dedicated to our clients, and talented in what they do.

That’s why we’ve chosen to launch our new article series: RC Community Connections, to shed light on the incredible work being done by our team, partners, and across York Region.

Our Commitment To Community

A huge part of who we are exists in our commitment to storytelling and our community, as it fulfills us and gives us purpose each day.

We give back, we engage, and we have a deep belief in the strength of our people. This is seen in the way we work with our clients, in the clients we work with, and in the compassionate work we do.

Many of our incredible clients and community partners also work towards strengthening communities and belonging, and we are proud of the role we can play in helping them to amplify their voices to deepen their impact through branding and marketing.

The Importance of Community Building

Over the past week or two – we have seen some media stories coming out of York Region that speak directly to the importance of visual storytelling, the power of social media, belonging in our workplaces, and the impact of how identity is a critical component to a sense of community.

This made us think… So, we wanted to take some time to reflect on how our focus on community connects and has an impact for our business, our clients, and beyond.

Many of you may have seen these stories:

  1. An experience of Gender Discrimination at Newmarket Public Library
A local mother has called out an experience her child had at a public library and is calling on all libraries to review and put in place policies around these issues.
  2. #unignorable tower
A part of the United Way GTA’s #unignorable campaign highlighting the impact of poverty through a powerful visual and digital story
  3. An alleged Hate Crime in a Newmarket parking lot
A member of the York Pride team – an incredible community builder was verbally and physically attacked.

These experiences highlight that while we live in an incredible town that we are proud to be a part of, there are gaps and more great strides to be made towards a community of belonging and inclusion.

Newmarket is an incredible place to live, work, grow, and play.

However, these examples show us we have work to do.

Building Belonging

The above stories remind us that our community is in a pivotal moment of development and that through various mediums, individuals are capable of helping to equip and encourage each other to show kindness in all things.

By leveraging social media, visual art, and their voices to communicate their experiences, community members have been able to connect with others and inspire growth.

At RC Design, we know we can’t find all of the answers, but we do believe that as a local business – we can and should also engage and be leaders in building and supporting belonging through the sharing of stories.

As ambassadors for change and growth, we are committed to giving back and to working with organizations that have an invested interest in creating positive change in the community.

After all, what is a space without a place? A gathering without a sense of belonging? A city without community? A bleak place indeed, which is why we strive to support and improve the lives of the people and businesses in our area.
